Manchester Source NotesINDEPENDENT READING EDITION
NOT THE GUARDIAN

METHOD AND DATE POLICY

Context is part of the evidence.

An independent reading edition with original essays and separately labelled historical source records.

Identity and non-affiliation

Manchester Source Notes is published at manchesterguardian.com as an independent reading edition. It is not The Guardian, Guardian News & Media or the historical Manchester Guardian newspaper. The domain and old page titles do not establish such an affiliation, and none is claimed. No original newsroom, local reporting team, contributor biography or institutional history is invented.

The new essays

Eight original guides were published on 17 October 2026, the actual release day in Europe/Moscow. They contain 1000–2300 words of main text each. Their subjects are reading public numbers, forecasts, institutional stages and source records. Worked examples are explicitly fictional. They are not a live news feed, a current financial forecast, personal medical advice or legal guidance. “Editorial Desk” is an organisational attribution label for this edition, not a recovered historical staff list.

The historical catalogue

The saved Wayback inventory contained 52 HTML records. All 17 query-free meaningful page records were inspected, excluding parking query strings, technical screen-coordinate loops and category/tag/author indices. Retrieval succeeded for all 17. The early 2004 homepage and 001.html and the later contact page supplied no usable main text. Fourteen news bodies from captures in 2025–2026 remain as local provenance evidence; their article metadata refers to 2024–2026. Most explicitly credit MENA Newswire or EuroWire. This edition publishes newly written catalogue annotations, titles, attribution, page-date metadata and capture records, not full external bodies, photographs or author biographies. Dates come from article-specific metadata, not neighbouring news widgets. One climate item conflates European and global averages; its annotation flags the discrepancy against the Copernicus bulletin. The name and domain do not establish affiliation with The Guardian, Guardian News & Media or the historical Manchester Guardian newspaper. No such affiliation is claimed.

Different dates, different objects

Article-specific page metadata, an event date, an archive capture and a newly written annotation are distinct records. The catalogue preserves article:published_time and article:modified_time labels without claiming they independently establish an external publisher’s original publication. Nearby widget dates are excluded. Captures and metadata are never substituted for this edition’s new Article dates.

Attribution and uncertainty

HISTORICAL SOURCE RECORD — NEW ANNOTATION, NOT ORIGINAL BODY TEXT. Saved news claims, forecasts, legal descriptions, health statistics and market figures are not current guidance or independently verified findings. Page metadata, the date of an event and the archive capture date are different facts. Attribution is preserved; full external text and photographs are not republished. No affiliation with The Guardian or Guardian News & Media is claimed.

The source pages are marked noindex, excluded from the sitemap and carry no Article datePublished. New annotations are not represented as recovered wording. The climate record’s regional/global mismatch is flagged against a primary bulletin; other saved claims are not thereby certified. Full external articles, photographs and author profiles are not republished.

No simulated services

No account, subscription, payment, active newsroom contact, price feed or historic service control is included. Links to primary references and archived captures are provided for examination, not as evidence that every historical claim remains current.
